In order to conduct in-depth research on the precipitation distribution pattern of dominant tree species in the South Asian tropics, this data is based on the National Positioning Observation and Research Station of the Youyiguan Forest Ecosystem in Guangxi. From January 2018 to December 2021, in the forest area of the Tropical Forestry Experimental Center of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, the dominant tree species in the South Asian tropics, Pinus massoniana Lamb. and Castanopsis hystrix Miq., were used as research objects to carry out continuous dynamic monitoring and research on rainfall outside the forest, runoff inside the forest, and stem flow. The sample plot layout and monitoring were carried out in accordance with regulations. This dataset has been analyzed and processed to obtain 24-hour measured data on rainfall outside the Red Pine and Masson Pine forests, internal runoff, and trunk flow. The construction of the dataset has also been explained. Establishing and sharing this dataset can provide fundamental data for in-depth research on forest water use patterns and their response to global climate change, as well as scientific reference for sustainable management and management of South Asian tropical forest ecosystems.

This data consists of hourly data on rainfall outside the forest, runoff inside the forest, and stem flow;
(1) Off forest rainfall: Observations were made using a self recording tipping bucket rain gauge (TE525MM, Campbell, USA, resolution 0.2 mm), and real-time data was recorded using a UA-003-64 (Campbell, USA) sensor;
(2) Linne leakage: 15 self recording rainfall tipping devices were arranged in a grid within the sample plot for observation, and data was recorded using the HOBO7852 (UA-003-64, Campbell, USA) sensor;
(3) Trunk flow: Observe using a digital tipping bucket flow meter (DJ-50ML, resolution 50 mL) and record data using a HOBO7852 (UA-003-64, Campbell, USA) sensor.
The calculation of trunk and stem flow is based on the long-term positioning observation method for forest ecosystems according to GB/T33027-2016.
The selection and setting of sample plots are typical and representative, with 24-hour automatic observation of rainfall outside the forest, runoff inside the forest, and stem flow by instruments. Professional monitoring personnel are equipped to maintain them together, and observation data is collected and organized on time. The observation data is complete and reliable.
